Yesterday, Peter Aaslestad of Aaslestad Preservation Consulting LLC visited the Old Senate Chamber to survey the space using architectural photogrammetry, the practice of obtaining information about physical objects through the process of recording, measuring, and interpreting photographic images.

This practice is most commonly associated with the production of topographic images through aerial survey, but it is also ideally suited for the survey and measurement of historic buildings. The benefits of photogrammetry include: it is non-intrusive; it is ideal for recording data of a complex nature; a high level of accuracy is achievable; the use of digital data ensures total flexibility across a multitude of platforms; it is cost-effective; and photographs may be archived and compared over time.
Peter Aaslestad is an internationally recognized historic preservation consultant specializing in the use of architectural photogrammetry with over 20 years experience. His work utilizes the newest available technologies, coupled with his deep understanding of traditional building techniques, to accurately document and interpret historic structures.
